Abdul El-Sayed’s mother, whom the left-wing Michigan Senate candidate called on camera in a May campaign video, was active in the Muslim Brotherhood while in college in Egypt, a revelation that further contradicts El-Sayed’s recent claims that neither he nor his family have ties to the radical Islamist group, the Free Beacon’s Chuck Ross reports.
El-Sayed’s half-sister, Eman Abdelhadi, wrote of her mother’s ties to the Muslim Brotherhood in a 2012 tweet sent just after Muslim Brotherhood leader Mohamed Morsi was elected president of Egypt. “Had an amazing talk with my mom about her activism in the Muslim Brotherhood during the early 70s while she was in college,” wrote Abdelhadi, who is five years younger than El-Sayed and has a different father. Their mother, Fatten Elkomy, attended Alexandria University, which was known as a hub for Muslim Brotherhood activity in the 1970s.

El-Sayed himself has recounted his mother’s campus activism, writing in his book, Healing Politics, that she was a “leader on campus” without mentioning the Muslim Brotherhood. Though he lived with his father after his parents divorced early in his life, he maintains a close relationship with his mother. El-Sayed called her in a 2026 Mother’s Day campaign video, saying, “Enjoy the day, and we’ll see you soon,” and “Love you, Mama. Talk soon.” Years earlier, in 2020, El-Sayed sent Abdelhadi money on the mobile payment service Venmo for “Mama’s bday gift,” a Free Beacon review found.

“The revelation of Elkomy’s role as a Muslim Brotherhood campus activist comes as El-Sayed denies any ties to the Islamist group, which spawned Hamas in Gaza in the 1980s,” writes Ross. “In a Sunday Meet the Press appearance, El-Sayed said neither he nor his family have connections to the Brotherhood. ‘You don’t have any ties, and your family doesn’t?’ NBC’s Kristen Welker asked. ‘No,’ El-Sayed said twice. But Abdelhadi, who was arrested for assaulting a police officer during an anti-ICE rally in Chicago last year, has repeatedly discussed her family’s ties to the Brotherhood, the Free Beacon reported.”

The former chairman of the Michigan Democratic Party is calling out Abdul El-Sayed’s campaign over a statement—presented as being the candidate’s own words and appearing for months on his campaign website—that justified the actions of Ayman Ghazali, the Hezbollah supporter who attacked a Michigan synagogue and Jewish school in March. Lon Johnson, who served as state party chair through 2015, said Monday that he contacted the El-Sayed campaign last month over a notable line in a transcript of El-Sayed’s video message about the attack—which stated that the perpetrator “should have done it”—and did not receive an explanation on how the line was published.
ICE’s criminal investigative arm, Homeland Security Investigations, raided the home of far-left congresswoman Ilhan Omar early Monday morning in relation to a criminal fraud probe into the Somali-born Omar’s immigration paperwork. Omar is suspected of having fraudulently entered the United States in 1995 as a member of a family she is not actually related to. Border czar Tom Homan said last month that Omar was the subject of an active “criminal” investigation.
When ABC News bizarrely deleted a recent story alleging the defense contractor Anduril received billions of dollars in federal contracts because members of the Trump family hold a stake in the company, the network said it did so not because the piece was inaccurate but because it was “published prematurely.” That’s not true, according to private communications between Anduril and ABC, which show that ABC defended the story’s accuracy amid complaints from the company.
Jonathan Chait of the Atlantic revealed that he had an interview scheduled with anti-American streamer and top Abdul El-Sayed campaign surrogate Hasan Piker, who ultimately postponed and then canceled the interview. That may have come from a desire to help El-Sayed, who reportedly called Piker to warn him that his rhetoric was costing votes.
Over in the Minneapolis suburb of Eden Prairie, an 18-year-old man accused of shooting two people at a high school homecoming football game, Adam Abdihakeem Adam, was reportedly released from jail after posting a $100,000 bond. The local left-wing prosecutor, Mary Moriarty, has received financial support from groups tied to the liberal megadonor George Soros.
