HELLO JON Setting aside the editorial itself, there are underlying subtexts—stemming from assumptions versus the unspoken, potential contradictions, premeditation, strategies, politics, ignorance, ulterior motives, time-killing, patience, paranoia, stress, a "five minutes of fame" mentality, delirium tremens, and so on. The most obvious question is: if the situation within the American ethos bothers you so much, why do you keep living there? Of course, caught between opportunism and destitution, the "Land of Opportunity"—where one can make a fortune—is a welcome prospect. It is easy to rail against the system, given the two-faced nature of hypocrisy and ambivalence; where commitment, revealing one's true colors, or changing one's mind costs nothing—yet the burden falls solely on the taxpayer. They certainly aren't the first "avant-garde" types to drink Cola, visit Disney, or live in a gated community while seeking American citizenship. Well, they always reveal their true selves—or else blame the journalists for taking things out of context (specifically the words that expose and condemn them) or for overestimating the "common denominator" of the public, whose common sense ought to remind them of other episodes and other disreputable figures from the daily history of this turbulent city—a place where there are other issues at hand, yet these individuals contribute absolutely no ideas for improvement...
