New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof recently took to the stage at the Harvard Kennedy School to deliver what was supposed to be the Malcolm H. Wiener Lecture in International Political Economy. “It turned out to be not a lecture but a pathetic, apparently unprepared question-and-answer style performance by Kristof, who doubled down on his unverified fantasy that Israel is using a trained dog to rape Palestinian prisoners,” the Free Beacon’s Ira Stoll writes. Kristof said the dog rapes happened to “numerous” prisoners but couldn’t say how many. He sourced his claims to human rights groups that he said didn’t talk to each other before conceding that they do in fact talk to each other. He also said dog rape was employed by the Nazi war criminal Klaus Barbie, likening the tactics of the IDF to those of the SS. It’s unclear how much Kristof was paid for the appearance, but Harvard’s English and history departments paid another anti-Israel guest lecturer, Ta-Nehisi Coates, a $35,000 honorarium and $7,500 in travel expenses to appear on campus on September 24, 2025, the second day of Rosh Hashanah. Thirty-seven-year-old Deshawn Bailey was featured on stage with Lawrence at the Aug. 27, 2025, event decked out in Michigan State University gear. He calls himself an “organizer,” “activist,” and “one of the founding members” of Lawrence’s Rent Is Too Damn High Coalition, a tenants’ union that aims for “affordable housing for all in the Lansing area.” “According to court documents obtained by the Free Beacon, Bailey repeatedly raped his half-sister, starting when she was in the third grade. Some of the assaults took place when Bailey was over 18 and his victim younger than 13. He was released from prison in May 2024 after 14 years behind bars. He joined the Rent is Too Damn High Coalition on April 23, 2025, according to internal group records reviewed by the Free Beacon.” The revelation raises questions both for Lawrence, who is running against Republican incumbent Tom Barret in one of the country’s most high-profile House races, and for national Democrats. House Democrats’ campaign arm recently added Lawrence to its “red-to-blue” program, which is reserved for “top-tier” candidates who receive extra financial support. And while it’s unclear whether Bailey has a formal role with Lawrence’s campaign, he has posted photos and videos from Lawrence campaign events, including his primary victory party. Lawrence, 36, has called for “a world without police and prisons,” and for the “abolishing the institution of marriage” and “destroying the American way of life.” He has also pushed for legislation prohibiting Michigan landlords from asking housing applicants about their criminal histories and felony convictions. Globalization and barbarism... one could compile anthologies of this, each more appalling than the last in the annals of our sad humanity. The psychological analysis itself is a trauma born of sheer derangement. Even the translation of the headline creates confusion in the rush to understand: were the dogs raped, or are dogs the next sexual predators? I recall reading a story back in the 90s—I believe it happened in Sweden—about a farmer with a small dairy operation whose cows had been sexually assaulted one night. The police discovered the attacker was a bear. A touch of irony: thank goodness Rin Tin Tin and Lassie didn't live in this era—they were spared. And amidst this torrent of words on the program, is there room for Economy? Just mentioning all the awards bestowed upon Economy... are we "useful idiots," or are we taken for fools who blindly admire fraud? After all, everything is upside down.
