Two people were killed and 14 wounded in a shooting early Sunday near the University of Texas at Austin—and federal authorities are investigating the incident as a potential terrorist act. According to the Associated Press, the suspect, identified as 53-year-old Ndiaga Diagne, wore a sweatshirt emblazoned with the slogan, “Property of Allah,” and a shirt bearing the Iranian flag. The New York Post reported that a Quran was found in his car, while CBS News said investigators discovered an Iranian flag and photos of regime leaders inside his apartment.

Police shot and killed Diagne—a naturalized U.S. citizen born in Senegal—at the scene. The FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force is leading the investigation. The acting special agent in charge of the FBI’s San Antonio field office, Alex Doran, said agents found “indicators” of a “potential nexus to terrorism,” though officials cautioned it is too early to determine a motive.

The attack came one day after the U.S.-Israeli military strikes against Iran. In response to heightened tensions, FBI director Kash Patel said he placed counterterrorism teams on high alert, and the Secret Service increased security around key federal sites. U.S. officials said they are monitoring for potential retaliatory threats as the Austin investigation continues.
